Not to worry. I figured out the investment advice you need for any future 401(k) rollover.
You need independent, third-party, fiduciary level investment advice. Provided by an experienced investment advisor.
I have told you what you need. Please let me try to convince you why you need it.
No products to sell. Not affiliated with your company 401(k) sponsor (your company). Or your company 401(k) provider (Schwab, Fidelity, Vanguard, etc.).
And most important of all. An investment advisor who is not waiting patiently. For the biggest payday in his or her investment advice career. That day when you are ready for the 401(k) rollover sales pitch.
The pitch comes from all sides. From every retirement plan custodian who has information about your 401(k) account.
The sponsor of your company 401(k) does not need to wait for an invitation to your retirement party. They have many ways of finding out about your upcoming retirement. And inactivity in your 401(k) account.
Your 401(k) sponsor has legions of young advisors. Fresh out of college. With newly minted degrees and licensing. Allowing them to talk to retiring 401(k) participants. All with title of retirement planning consultants.
This fact has not changed in several investment advisor generations. Your current company 401(k) provider does not want to lose your 401(k) account balance. They already have your 401(k). Now they want you to keep the money with them.
The only thing that has changed is 401(k) sponsors have every IRA and annuity option to sell.
Would any 401(k) provider recommend a retiree move their 401(k) money into an IRA with a competing provider?
What kind of insurance agent would tell you to invest your 401(k) nest egg into an annuity from another company?
At best, any 401(k) provider rollover recommendation is full of self-interest. Completely the opposite of the advice from an independent registered investment advisor. One held to a fiduciary standard.
I am curious if you are aware of this fact. Did you know that most investments available outside of your 401(k) are available inside your 401(k)?
In most cases, this is true. But you would never realize it from the company 401(k) provider IRA sales pitch.
The decision to roll over your 401(k) to a self-directed IRA is highly personalized. Not close to a blanket yes or no answer. Many factors involved in the decision. All the more reason to seek out qualified advice from an expert.
