Hi Mom,
I have been thinking about you a lot lately. Even more than I normally do.
I wish that you could be here to see my kids grow up. I see so much of you in each of them. I also see the things that you taught me growing up and how I have tried to teach each of my kids these same things.
Your granddaughter is having a great softball season at her school. She is playing on the Varsity team again this season, and you would never know that she is one of the youngest players on the team. She is also on the A Honor Roll. You and I both know that her good grades came from you, skipped my generation, and went directly to her.
Your grandson is now officially a “beast.” He is now a full three inches taller than me, and he is working out every day for football season. He drives his own car, manages his own calendar, and makes his own decisions. I think I was able to do all those things in my third year of college. He is truly a 16-year-old man.
I see Dad as often as I can. He misses you now as much, or more, than when you died a little over seven years ago. He is looking older now. I guess that goes along with his Parkinson’s disease and his 85 years on earth.
Dad is getting ready to go to the cabin for the summer. Every time he talks about the cabin he tells me one of several stories about the years that the two of you spent time together there in the summer in northern Minnesota. He tells me that it is not the same without you there.
I visit your brother frequently. His health is fragile too, but he is in a good spirit when I see him. I promised you before you died that I would take care of him after you were gone. I think I am doing a good job of letting him know that he will always be my favorite Uncle.
Sometimes when my business gets tough, I think about the things you always told me about how to “hang in there.” I remember that you always told me to work hard every day to help people with things that they can’t do for themselves.
I will really miss you on Sunday. I have the greatest memories of you, but I would give everything I have to be able to spend one more Mother’s Day with you.
I love you mom. I know that you are still watching me and my kids.
